Congratulations!

You are officially moving forward in the SON Adjunct Faculty Hiring Process to become an APU Adjunct Faculty member with the School of Nursing. We are excited you are here with us!

The following steps will guide you through the onboarding process.

Step 1: Understand Your Contract

The School of Nursing Operations Team ([email protected]) will gather contact information through the information you provided in the application process. Please read the First Teaching Assignment section in our article about the SON Adjunct Faculty Contract Process. This will help you understand what to expect and how to read your contract. If the contract is correct, please sign your contract as soon as possible. (If there are any issues with your contract, please do not sign your contract and email [email protected] right away. )

Step 2: Complete any remaining Onboarding Steps in SilkRoad

HR will send you an email shortly with instructions to complete HR's New Hire Paperwork and I-9.  Please log into SilkRoad and make sure all tasks including the I-9 have been completed.  (Sexual Harassment: Policy and Prevention Training can be completed at a later date). This step must be done to complete your new hire process.

Step 3: Timekeeping Expectations

HR will create your employee account when you have completed all of the Adjunct Faculty Hiring steps including the I-9. After the business office processes your contract, Timekeeping will grant you access to timekeeping.apu.edu so that you can record hours. Please review the following articles:

Step 4: Maintain Clinical Compliance

You will likely be required to maintain some clinical compliance in your position. Please read the following article:

Step 5: Obtain APU Identification, Nursing Badge, and Parking Pass

Each adjunct must have their APU Identification Card and Nursing Badge (sometimes called the Clinical Identification Card).

APU provides permitted on-campus parking to students, faculty, staff, and visitors to the university. Students, faculty, and staff must register their vehicles with the Department of Campus Safety to receive a university parking permit.

Step 6: Begin SON Faculty Training

The SON requires faculty with signed contracts to participate in the SON Adjunct Faculty Workshop. Here is an article with the details:

In addition to the adjunct workshop, each position may require additional training. Please read:

Step 7: Learn the Organizational Structure

The School of Nursing has approximately 2,200 students over five campuses across Southern California. Please review the Organizational Chart on our Governance page on our SON employee website

On the organizational chart, you should be able to see who is the department chair responsible for your course. In addition, you will be able to see the other administrators who help to support that division. If you are unable to identify your department chair, please email [email protected]

Here is the general communication tree:
